About Us
Autism, also known as Autistic Spectrum Disorder, is a neurological disorder that impairs socialization and communication and may cause difference in the way an individual processes information. It has been estimated to occur in 1 in 166 individuals, and is more common than Down Syndrome.
Autism is a devastating disorder for a child to be diagnosed with. When you go to your insurance company and they say the therapies and equipment that your child needs are not covered, you do not know where to turn. Parents are then forced to pay out of pocket for services their child needs and if unable to, their child must go without.
Our mission is to help the children and families affected by autism and autism spectrum disorders in Ingham County. We raise money to give grants to parents to pay for doctors, therapies, equipment, and respite care. We work to raise Autism awareness in our county so people will be able to better understand what these children and families go through on a daily basis. We are also a resource for parents in finding where to go for the things and the support they need.
The Autism Foundation of Ingham County is a non-profit group started by the parents of a child with autism to help other parents of children with autism spectrum disorders. The foundation provides small grants to help with the high cost of raising a child with autism. The foundation also works to educate and increase awareness of autism and other autism spectrum disorders in Ingham County.
